Paul and Alice Jennings Join Glendale United Methodist Church Nashville TN UMC

We are beyond blessed that Paul + Alice Jennings chose us as their new church home + family! Keep reading…you’ll want to check out this bio!

A little bit about them: Alice grew up in a small rural town in northwestern Kentucky. Her family attended both of her parents’ churches since they were close by. They attended her mother’s Missionary Baptist church, and her father’s United Methodist church. Alice decided at eight years old to join her dad’s United Methodist church because they only sprinkled your head, and she was scared that her mom’s church would drown her.

Paul grew up in a very Catholic family. When he made his first confession, the priest gave him 20 Our Fathers and 20 Hail Mary’s as penance for not having enough sins. He was told that he hadn’t sincerely examined his conscience. He was only 7 at the time. It went downhill after that.

Paul and Alice were married in 1983. Alice joined the Catholic Church with Paul, so their family could attend only one church together instead of two like she did growing up. They did their best to stay Catholic but around 2008 Paul got tired of the mental and spiritual gymnastics he had to do for everything to make sense. Over the last 15 years they have attended a Presbyterian church and a United Methodist church, both good churches, but not quite what they were looking for.

They chose Glendale because they were looking for female leadership; a congregation that loves the Lord with all of their heart, mind, and soul; awesome pew mates; cheerful greeters; and at their age, a place where they felt like they could have a fun funeral. Also, people smile and even laugh during service; you don’t have to leave your brain at the door when you enter the church; and what’s more, if you volunteer to help with something and mess up, it’s actually OK, nobody fusses at you! God is love and that’s what matters.
